Mo Bamba and Austin Rivers were both suspended for fighting on the court |
NEW YORK – Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations, said today that Orlando Magic center Mo Bamba will miss four games without pay and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Austin Rivers will miss three games without pay for their parts in a fight on the court.
Magic guard Jalen Suggs has also been suspended for one game without pay because he escalated the fight by violently grabbing Rivers by the neck and pulling him to the ground.
Jaden McDaniels, a forward for the Timberwolves, was fined $20,000 for his part in the fight, which included running into the crowd and pushing Bamba in the back.
The incident happened with 1:32 left in the third quarter of the Magic's 127-120 win over the Timberwolves on February 3 at Target Center. All four players got technical fouls and were kicked off the court.
A fight broke out between Bamba and Rivers in front of the Magic bench, and both players threw punches. Then, Suggs and McDaniels joined the fight without trying to make peace, which made the situation get worse.
After the incident, Bamba tried to keep arguing with Rivers in a hostile way in the hallway outside the locker rooms. He also pushed a security guard in an angry way. After the game, both Bamba and Rivers kept the fight going on social media.
Bamba will start serving his four-game suspension on Sunday, February 5, when the Magic play the Charlotte Hornets at Spectrum Center. Suggs will start serving his one-game suspension on the same day. Rivers will start his three-game suspension on Sunday, February 5, when the Denver Nuggets come to Target Center to play the Minnesota Timberwolves.
